One of the best accounts on Twitter is WeRateDogs™ (@dog_rates). The account’s purpose is simple: to shower uninhibited praise on adorable canines. E.g.:
Meet Boomer. He's just checking pup on you. Hopes you had a good day. If not, he hopes he made it better. 13/10 extremely good boy pic.twitter.com/pozUoHLkGg

The account is wildly popular (2.2 million followers), which means it’s monetizable, and WeRateDogs’s website sells shirts, caps, mugs, and more. This morning, WeRateDogs put up for sale a black baseball cap that reads “COVFEFE AF,” poking fun at President Trump’s early morning Twitter typo. The site also announced that half of profits from covfefe-cap sales will be donated to Planned Parenthood.
Why? Why do this?
There are countless things today, big and small, that serve to split Americans along political lines. It’s not just the goings-on in Congress and the White House. We’re divided left-against-right about comic books and superhero movies and the New England Patriots. Hoop earrings? Political. Breakfast sandwiches? Political. Air conditioning? Don’t even start. Was it really necessary to impose yet another dividing line?
Look, I get it. There are a lot of other things in the world more worth getting worked up about than WeRateDogs’s political agenda. It’s their site and their money, to do with as they please. I’m not a “snowflake.” I don’t need a “safe space.”
I just wanted a place where I could look at pictures of cute dogs and not also be hounded about politics. Is that really too much to ask?
Update:
WeRateDogs has apologized, sort of:

Unsurprisingly, this is not going over well with Planned Parenthood supporters:
