The netroots campaign against Lieberman in Connecticut has gotten so intense that it’s hard to remember that just last month, Markos Moulitsas pledged to support Lieberman if Lieberman wins the Democratic primary. On “Meet the Press” June 11, I said of the Kossacks gathered at their convention in Las Vegas, “You almost got the sense that they would rather defeat Lieberman in a primary than the Republican candidate in the fall.” A short time later, Tim Russert asked Moulitsas, “Do you believe that, that bloggers like yourself would prefer to have a Republican senator from Connecticut rather than Joe Lieberman?” Moulitsas answered, “Absolutely not. If Joe Lieberman wins the primary, we’re all going to get behind Joe Lieberman.”
