West: Nothing Liberals ‘Fear’ More than a Black Conservative

Former Florida congressman Allen West says “there is nothing on this green earth that a liberal progressive fears more than a black American who wants a better life and a smaller government.”

West, one of the first speakers to take the stage this morning at the Conservative Political Action Conference, drew loud applause for his remark.

Channeling a theme of the presidential campaign, West also warned that the United States is reaching a point where many Americans value government handouts more than personal liberty — and that the former comes at the cost of the latter.

“Unfortunately, some of our American brothers are lost in the woods and have no compass, they have no map, and their GPS satellites are inoperable. When more Americans prefer freebies to freedom these great United States will become a further ground for tyranny,” he said. West emphasized the importance of a strong national defense.

A former lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army who served in Iraq, West explained that his conservatism derives from personal experience — from learning that peace comes from “the Marine Corps, not the Peace Corps.”

Though he vowed to “go to war” over a recount in the November election, West eventually conceded a close race to his Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy.
