What Happened to The Old Criterion?

Not that there is **nothing at all** to worry about where The New

Criterion is concerned.

From “Notes & Comments” in the current (Nov. ‘05) issue:

“What Pinter dispensed was a certain tone–an atmosphere of menace,

borrowed largely from Samuel Beckett. It’s chief effect, when you first

encountered it, was to make semi-articulate dissatisfaction seem like

existential profundity.”

Lynne Truss has labored in vain.
