Investors Business Daily is too generous with credit:
“We have to strengthen our global alliances as the core of a new global compact — a League of Democracies — that can harness the vast influence of the more than one hundred democratic nations around the world to advance our values and defend our shared interests.”
We thought this was a great idea back in 2004, when columnist Jonah Goldberg first proposed it, and we think it’s an even better one now. The views of governments that legitimately represent their countries’ peoples should far outweigh those of corrupt, troublemaking tyrants looking for global handouts for themselves. The latter are why the UN is a cesspool of waste, thievery and moral impotence, for which U.S. taxpayers foot so much of the bill.
It’s true this has been my hobbyhorse for a while, but I don’t think I was the first to champion the idea.
