Both Egypt and Yemen have declared their intention to develop nuclear power. What is less known is that both are doing so with State Department blessing and assistance (hat-tip Little Green Footballs). Check out the State Department’s “Global Nuclear Energy Partnership,” a program designed “to envision a future where we can bring the benefits of nuclear power to the developing world.” Another view might be a world where we further the spread of nuclear technology in the belief that we can trust foreign governments when they promise never to let the technology fall into the wrong hands. This is one idea that should not see the light of day, especially now.
