Science note: When it comes to CO2, volcanoes are not a major factor. This volcano is emitting about 10,000 metric tons a day, which is negligible compared to human emissions. In fact, the grounding of the flights probably saved many times more CO2 emissions than the volcano has put out. So don’t let yourself go down that particular rabbit hole. The other emissions are much more serious.
