‘Where Are the Women?’ Does Dorinda Bordlee Count?

That’s the mantra (it is not really a question) that Democratic women — led by Rep. Carolyn Maloney and D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes-Norton, who both walked out on last Thursday’s House Oversight and Government Reform Committee — have been wailing about and fundraising on in recent days.

In addition to the fact that there were women testifying at that hearing, and obviously on the committee, there have been other women on the forefront of the protest against the HHS mandate that compels taxpayers with conscience objections to provide contraception, sterilization, and even abortion-inducing drugs.

Last Thursday, the same day as the hearing we’ve heard so much screeching about, Dordina Bordlee was on TV (The World Over on EWTN) and radio (The Laura Ingraham Show) talking about the mandate and Obamacare itself. When asked about the characterization of the HHS-mandate debate as men telling women whether or not they can use contraception, she replied that it was “absolutely insane.”

“This is not about personal morality; this is about individual liberty,” Bordlee said.

“We don’t have to agree on each other’s values” she said. This debate is about defending “the First Amendment right not to have the state impose upon those beliefs.”
