The Corner

Which is It?

I think Bill Kristol (on Fox) was wrong about Michelle Obama’s speech (he thought it was boring). I think he’s absolutely right when he points to the fundamental contradiction of the convention and the campaign. Obama won the nomination as the exiting, different, radical, different, exotic redeemer figure. The problem, the Obama campaign has discovered, is that that won’t win you a general election. So now, rather than tack to the center, Obama has to tack to the normal. The delegates want the redeemer, the voters want the normal. And  so far Obama wants to be both. The problem is that you can’t be both things. Or maybe you can, but Obama hasn’t figured out how, yet.
