Dan Pfeiffer, one of President Obama’s top advisers, played down the initial estimate that 7 million people would need to enroll in Obamacare exchanges in order for the program to succeed. He said the White House wasn’t going off that figure, offered by the Congressional Budget Office, but rather would just try to get “as many people done as possible.”
Pfeiffer echoed press secretary Jay Carney’s statements that the White House expects the first month-enrollment numbers to be low. “I can promise that the first enrollment numbers, which will be released later this month, are not going to be what we wanted them to be,” Pfeiffer told This Week’s George Stephanopoulos on Sunday, but said the White House will be in a “good place” once the Healthcare.gov website is fixed.
