Last night, the ophthamologist and son of Ron Paul (whose full name is “Randall”) announced the formation of his exploratory committee for the U.S. Senate from Kentucky. Speaking last night on Rachel Rachel Maddow’s show, he said the Republican Party has “lost its mojo” and appealed to the same Right-Left base that supported and donated some $35 million to his father’s 2008 presidential campaign. He has raised nearly $11,000 so far this morning.
If and when Sen. Jim Bunning (R, Ky.) drops out of the race, Paul will be a big underdog against Secretary of State Trey Grayson (R) in a Republican primary. Bunning’s status has been the subject of controversy for months, but there is now greater confidence that he will drop out after he gave his blessing to Grayson to start his exploratory committee.
