In yesterday’s Impromptus, I mentioned an interesting fact — at least I think it’s interesting: During the 2008 cycle, Fox News was scheduled to host a Democratic presidential debate. But the candidates canceled, because Fox was judged beyond the pale — it had cooties. Last week, the Republicans debated under the auspices of MSNBC.
I asked an old question: Are conservatives more tolerant of liberals than liberals are of conservatives? This question can be asked at both the institutional level and the personal level.
Well, a professor from Australia has forwarded me an article about Match.com, a dating service. The chief engineer of this website says, “Conservatives are far more open to reaching out to someone with a different point of view than a liberal is.” The article adds, “. . . when it comes to looking for love, conservatives are more open-minded than liberals.”
