Our Gospel reading this morning was Luke 14, vii-xiv: “For whosever
exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be
exalted.” I hope it wasn’t inappropriate of me, but I couldn’t help
thinking of John Kerry trumpeting his service in Vietnam.
