WHOSE LOST CAUSE?

In today’s Washington Post, the cartoonist Tom Toles draws George Allen sitting at a desk. Behind him is a Confederate flag and another flag with the words “Ballot Recount!” Allen looks vexed; the caption reads, “Another Lost Cause.”

Putting aside the fact that Allen conceded yesterday, does Toles have any idea what he is talking about? In choosing Jim Webb over Allen, the voters of Virginia have, in effect, rejected the transplant from California (even though he had served as their congressman, governor, and senator) in favor of a proud and true son of the Confederacy.
