Why not Daniels?

Why isn’t Mitch Daniels on anyone’s VP list for McCain? Is it just because he’s running for reelection? Isn’t he the ideal can-do executive for McCain? If McCain needs to argue that Obama is not ready, why not pick an overwhelmingly competent, just slightly dull, Midwestern, experienced wonk with political skills and command of the domestic issues? He’s not exciting, to be sure. But the GOP won’t beat the Democrats for excitement this year, so why not play to your strengths, and the other guy’s weaknesses?
