Why They’re Telling Instead of Showing

Over on Fox, Sean Hannity, Pete Hegseth, Mike Huckabee, and a few others interrupted Donald Trump’s campaign-announcement speech — I think it was Huckabee who called it Trump’s best ever — to wax poetic about it for about ten minutes. One of them even suggested, mere moments into Trump’s campaign, that if Trump continued on this course, he would be “unbeatable.”

Later, Laura Ingraham once again cut into the speech, this time through its conclusion, to give a second panel the chance to opine while its audience watched a muted Trump on split-screen. Forgive me, but if we were watching a rhetorical masterpiece being painted in front of us, I don’t think Trump would have resembled a mime on the side of the screen while others tried to convince us of how compelling his words were.
