Christian and I have written about Wisconsin union activists’ most recent shenanigans as they continue to plunge the depths of partisan buffoonery (Republicans are Nazis! And so on). Now, I don’t want to stoop to their level, but I would simply suggest that any group whose actions force a government official (in this case, Wassau mayor Jim Tipple) to release the following statement is in no position to be making such accusations (emphasis added):
The banning of a political party from participation at any event co-sponsored by the City is against public policy and not in the best interest of all the citizens of the City of Wausau. And therefore, we encourage the event organizer to invite all interested parties, or reimburse the city for other costs.
That’s right, union groups voted to ban Republican lawmakers from the upcoming Labor Day parade in Wassau. Tipple said that because the city was providing funds, services and equipment for the event, it must be open to all members of the public. If the unions don’t back down, the mayor said they will have pick up to the tab, assuming they can still afford it after their unsuccessful splurge on the recent recall elections.
