The next senator from Mississippi will be Rep. Roger Wicker. That’s my guess, based on Rep. Chip Pickering’s statement that he doesn’t want the seat recently abandoned by Trent Lott. Gov. Haley Barbour is scheduled to announce his choice for a replacement tomorrow.
Wicker’s House seat, in the northern tier of Mississippi, is safely Republican.
