The early indications are that he’s going to run and that he will find a receptive audience. The new Bloomberg/Des Moines Register poll has him in second, behind Mitt Romney. I take the Romney result to be in part name ID — I wonder where George W. Bush would be in an Iowa poll at the moment — but the Carson result to be something real. He’s leading a lot of senators who get more air time. Do I think he’ll win the nomination or even win Iowa? No and probably not. But if he runs, he will win a swath of conservative voters that other candidates on the Right will be desperate for.
