Will You or Won’t You

sleep for the next four years?

WASHINGTON, DC, October 4, 2004 – Election night will mark the first of many sleepless nights for nearly half of Americans, according to a recent poll of registered voters conducted for the Better Sleep Council by the polling company™, inc.

When asked which candidate – George W. Bush or John Kerry – would likely cause them more sleepless nights as president for the next four years, the results were almost evenly divided. Of voters polled, 42 percent pointed a tired finger at Bush as the candidate who would cause the most sleepless nights and a close 40 percent stated Kerry would deny them needed zzz’s.

Additionally, given the delayed results of the 2000 election, more than half (57 percent) of respondents agreed that it is worth sacrificing a good night’s sleep on November 2, 2004, to stay up and find out who is elected president.

“The results of this poll demonstrate that many Americans are so invested in this election that they are willing to make personal sacrifices, such as losing a good night’s sleep,” said Kellyanne Conway, president & CEO of the polling company™, inc. “Although the voting public may be polarized in its decision for presidential favorite, 80 percent of respondents agree that the outcome of the election will affect their sleep during the next four years.”
