William Rusher

is supporting Miers. Conservatives should always listen to Rusher. But I think he is wrong to suggest that nominating, say, Priscilla Owen would have led to Senate rejection. “But could we count on Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, or those two liberals from Maine, Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe? Would John McCain be willing to scupper the filibuster at last, as a weapon in judicial confirmations? And what about that famous wobbler from Ohio, George Voinovich?” If every single one of those senators defected, you’d still have had a 51-50 vote to end judicial filibusters.
