John Wisniewski, the leader of a New Jersey legislative investigation of the George Washington Bridge lane closures, said today that “we don’t have any proof right now that the governor said, ‘Go and close the lanes.’”

This past week, David Wildstein, the Port Authority official who oversaw the lane closures, said that he knows of evidence showing that governor Chris Christie knew about the lane closures when they were happening. However, Wildstein has not yet provided any documents to support his allegation.

“The use of the words ‘evidence exists’ as opposed to saying, ‘I have documents’ or ‘I have an email,’ is a curious choice of words,” Wisniewski said. “Maybe he knows somebody else that has information. . . . It raises questions about what does he have and why doesn’t the committee have it.”
