We also found out that Patrick Kennedy, undersecretary for management at the State Department, told some on September 12 it was his personal opinion that the attacks might be terrorist-related. Nonetheless, Kennedy maintained that not just Susan Rice, but any official with the State Department, would have said what she said.
Charlene Lamb, deputy assistant secretary for international programs, asserted that security was adequate on September 11 — and avoided using the word terrorism.
Eric Nordstrom, regional security officer for the State Department, said that while his requests to maintain the same level of security had not been approved by the State Department, he was granted additional pay — danger pay — because the situation was viewed as getting worse in Libya.
