James Talarico has once again appealed to the Bible for support for his progressive politics, this time in an X post. According to Talarico, Jesus favored universal health care because the Son of God healed people without asking for a deductible. Today on The Editors, Rich asks Jim what he makes of the comment.
“Here’s the thing: most doctors, most nurses, most medical professionals, they’re exceptional people . . . but they don’t have the ability to perform miracles. And if you’re comparing human medical technology versus the divine ability to heal . . . I think we gotta give it to God. He’s really always gonna have the technological advantage,” Jim says. “So I feel like Talarico is being a little unfair here.”
“Everything that we use for our metaphorical miracles — MRI machines, surgery, medications — requires the labor of someone else. So the question is, ‘Is it unreasonable to ask the people receiving the care to contribute something to the care?’”
