Today’s Between the Covers podcast — a special Thursday edition! — is with Jeanne Safer, author of Cain’s Legacy: Liberating Siblings from a Lifetime of Rage, Shame, Secrecy, and Regret.
No, I’m not going through a rough patch with my brothers. (But thanks for asking.) Instead, I’m informing NROniks of a book that’s about you. Or some of you. Longtime readers will recall this bleg, by Richard Brookhiser:
My wife Jeanne Safer, a psychotherapist and author of four books (and veteran of a number of NR dinners and cruises), is seeking interview subjects for book number five: a study of sibling conflicts in adulthood in which the problematic sibling is difficult but has no major mental or physical disability or addiction. Interviews are in-depth and take about an hour.
So the book is now out. As Jeanne explains in the podcast, several of the subjects (all names are changed) came to her attention via The Corner. In the podcast, we discuss the nature of sibling strife, why it’s so much worse than mere sibling rivalry, and what it’s like to be married to a NR writer when you don’t even share his politics. My wife would say it’s tough even when you do share his politics.
