You Can Be Conservative and a Good Businessman

There’s a thread out there that Rush confessed in that New York Times Magazine profile that he is not really conservative. Here’s the “money” quote they’re highlighting:

“Do you know what bought me all this?” he asked, waving his hand in the general direction of his prosperity. “Not my political ideas. Conservatism didn’t buy this house. First and foremost I’m a businessman. My first goal is to attract the largest possible audience so I can charge confiscatory ad rates. I happen to have great entertainment skills, but that enables me to sell airtime.”

Right. No news here. As it happens, he says that often — the lines could have come off of a transcript of his show, which columnist Paul Mulshine and others would know if they actually listened to TRLS. That Rush is a successful businessman is a truism. That he is conservative is a truism. Those who attempt to cast him as a “huckster” simply don’t know their subject.
