Given Rep. Zoe Lofgren’s degrading decision to invite Colbert to mock her congressional hearing, I figured the circus was ready-made for campaign ads and stump speeches. So I decided to look up her Republican opponent.
There isn’t one.
Lofgren is the only Democratic representative in California running unopposed. Even Pelosi has an opponent, in a district that went 85 percent for Obama (Lofgren’s went for him 70 percent). Republicans haven’t exceeded 30 percent against Lofgren for years, but this year of all years you’d think someone would have stepped forward, if only to force her to work at it a little bit and distract her from helping others.
At least there’s a Libertarian running, for whatever good that’ll do.
