Millennials are more liberal than their elders, right? Not on guns, apparently. Emily Ekins notes that in 2013, 18-to-24-year-olds were significantly more likely than other age groups to say that people should be allowed to own assault weapons. Seventy percent agreed. The group with the lowest support for that proposition were seniors, only 33 percent of whom backed it. Pew, this August, found the same pattern. Forty-nine percent of those under 30 and 63 percent of seniors favored a ban.
Other polling measures merely show that young voters are not significantly more supportive of gun control than older people. But even this finding is pretty remarkable when you consider that young people have more of the demographic markers of support for gun control than older people: They are more Democratic, and less likely to own a gun themselves.
