One of the architects of Obamacare tried to check concerns about the law’s rollout, urging Americans not to focus on the number of people enrolling in the federal and state exchanges but rather to compare costs between the plans offered by Obamacare and private insurance plans.
“I don’t think, at the moment, enrollment is the key question,” Zeke Emanuel, who served as a special adviser on health policy to the director of the Office of Management and Budget and the National Economic Council until January 2011, said Monday. “What I’d really like is for people to be easily be able to shop and easily be able to make comparisons.”
Emanuel, however, did urge the administration to be more transparent about the problems facing the law, saying that ”reassurance verbally in not worth much at this point.” He called for the White House to hold daily briefings and to set weekly milestones to show signs of improvement; “I would like it to be a little wonky,” he said.
