The Politico has a piece today that looks behind the curtain of Democratic happy talk about Tuesday’s election, observing that upcoming votes on health care and other pieces of the Obama agenda “could be career-enders” for Democrats.
The piece quotes Senator Warner as saying “we got walloped,” and liberal Congressman Bill Pascrell’s observation that “people who had weak-knees before are going to have weaker knees now.”
Of course, these worries are coming as the House is preparing to vote for the $1.2 trillion, 1,990-page Pelosi bill, a situation the Democrats were desperately trying to avoid. Much of the Democratic urgency to move their health bills over the last few months stemmed from the desire to pass something before the voters had a chance to speak. Now that the two highest profile races went the Republicans’ way, Blue Dogs will be fairly nervous headed into this weekend’s health vote, and with good reason.
