‘The Cantwell Amendment: Is this really the model of reform we want?’

From a Republican Senate staffer:

A little bit ago the Democrats accepted a Cantwell amendment in the Finance mark-up that would encourage states to enact a program mirroring the Washington Basic Health plan. In summary, the amendment would allow states to put people from 133-200 percent FPL in a kind of state-based government plan. A quick bit of research showed the plan has been a pretty noteworthy failure in Washington state. The New York Times reported
