Med Mal: Don’t Go There

The Hill has a story about how trial lawyers are telling President Obama not to find room for bipartisan compromise on the issue of medical-malpractice reform. According to the piece, Linda Lipsen, VP at the organization formerly known as ATLA, said “I would hope this would be an area we just don’t go.”

I have written in the past about how the president’s proposals in the area of med-mal reform are weak tea, but apparently just the fact that he has mentioned the issue is enough to scare the plaintiffs’ bar. Any kind of real bipartisan compromise would have to include a med-mal provision to be credible, but the trial lawyers donate enough money to make the Democrats think twice about “going there.”
