BREAKING: Attackers Enter American University of Afghanistan in Kabul

8:04 AM: The BBC is reporting that 13 people have been killed:

Thirteen people, including seven students, died in an attack by gunmen on the American University in the Afghan capital Kabul, police say.

Two attackers were also shot dead by security forces nearly 10 hours after the assault began with an explosion on Wednesday evening.

Students and staff were trapped inside the university during the attack, which police said was now over.

No group has said it carried out the attack.

1:21 PM: The Wall Street Journal reports that there are at least 14 wounded.

12:47 PM: Another reporter on the ground in Kabul is offering a conflicting report that Afghan special forces are engaged in a hand-grenade confrontation with the attackers.

12:41 PM : According to a journalist near the university, the attacks are over.

12:35 PM: NBC reports that Afghans have not requested U.S. or NATO assistance at this point.

12:28 PM: An Afghan journalist in Kabul reports that at least seven people have been killed and 20 have been wounded in the attack. According to a local police officer, at least 100 students were able to escape.

12:15 PM: Fox News’s Tom Haynes reports that hundreds of students and teachers are still inside the university.

12:00 PM: The Daily Mail reports that Afghan security forces have arrived at the university, which is being identified as a Taliban attack.
