Watching this anti McDonald’s hamburger ad, you would think it was put out be a group that really cares about your health. But this advocacy piece is produced by the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine–a creature of PETA. In other words, it’s really about animal rights, given away by the kicker urging viewers to go vegetarian.
Don’t get me wrong: I could care less about McDonald’s. I don’t eat there (except an occasional breakfast if on a road trip) because most of the calories are empty and filled with fat and sugar–the buns, the fries, the sugary soft drinks, the fried apple pies. The tasteless ground beef patty, were I to consume same, would have a much smaller effect on my health then most of the non meat items on the fast food menu, about 274 calories and 11.82 grams of fat. In contrast, the french fries have 410 calories and 21.7 grams of fat.
Also know this: If eating meat would add ten years to the average lifespan, the PCRM would still oppose consumption. It’s not about welfare of people. It’s about the “rights” of animals.
