A Good Day: Smith Debates Assisted Suicide at Columbia Law School and before Yale Political Union
A pretty good debate was held today at Columbia University Law School between David Levin–head of New York chapter of Compassion and Choices–and yours truly. As I recall it, it hit some hard point on both sides. Check it out at this podcast link:
That was this morning. This evening, after a train ride from Manhattan to New Haven, I had a raucous time at the famous Yale Political Union, debating whether euthanasia should be banned in the USA. I lost the resolution on a tie vote–which considering the context, was a victory. It was a great time, hissing, table pounding, with able and morally committed young people letting their views be known. I had a wonderful time, although it reminded me how old I am becoming.
All in all, a very good day. The young people were remarkable, giving hope for the world. Home tomorrow. I am ready for some rest.
