GLOUCESTER

Lizard-voiced, the seagull, esurient

And flush with light, cuts through sapphire and salt

Waves, to gratify pure appetite.

Granite endures like graves. Briars bloom.

On planks and shelves, books dock like sailing ships

And wait in far-fetched silence for ourselves.
