The Times’ Caucus blog has a post up on McCain’s appearance with David Letterman. Dave and the Senator exchanged zingers, with Letterman focusing on age.
The post ends, however, with this (emphasis mine):
On Tuesday, everybody was a comedian. The Democratic National Committee came up with its own April Fool’s day list of the “Top 10 Reasons to Vote for John McCain.” They included “Early Bird Specials at the White House cafeteria,” “Finally, the President of the National Press Club will be made a member of the cabinet,’’ “Best Karaoke Song Ever: ‘Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran’ ” and the number one reason: “The last seven years have been so great, let’s have four more!”
Well, the problem with this is that the DNC is not a comedian and posting something that makes fun of Senator McCain’s age is not appropriate. (The link in the Times is wrong, here’s the correct one.) I trust that the reaction of the Times would have been slightly different if the RNC put out a “joke” that had poked fun at Obama’s race or Hillary’s gender.
