It takes panache to begin a column with the brief note on Conrad Black’s latest:
Heartfelt thanks for the thousands of messages of good will I have received from all parts of Canada and the U.S. and many other countries, over my present confinement. I still expect justice to prevail in the Circuit Court of Appeals, and in the meantime my circumstances are somewhat interesting and not at all dangerous or demeaning. Apart from the injustice of being here at all, there has been no unpleasantness. There are full access to news, frequent visits and more time to read and write than I have had in many years.
