CENTCOM vs. AP

CENTCOM will apparently announce tomorrow that a key source for a number of AP reports from Iraq is not who he says he is:

Classification: UNCLASSIFIED
Sir:
I have just learned from Mr. Costlow, mentioned below, that Brig. Gen. Abdul-Karim Khalaf, the official Ministry of Interior spokesmen, will begin his regularly scheduled press conference at noon tomorrow with a statement that Capt. Jamil Hussein, is not a Baghdad police officer or an MOI employee.

So who is he? That would seem to be an important question, as the AP has used him as a source over 10 times since April. CENTCOM has played its hand; it now falls to the AP to come up with something to subtantiate its claim that Hussein is a “known police officer.”
Curt at Flopping Aces, who broke the story, and has more.
