China and Libya, Two Great Democracies

My favorite comment of yesterday was by Colonel Gaddafi in his speech to the UN General Assembly, saying only China deserved to retain its seat on the UN security council because it was the only one of the five permanent member states whose leadership was elected democratically.
This is almost as bizarre as the statement by John Simpson, the doyen of BBC foreign correspondents, who in an interview on the BBC earlier this week singled out Jimmy Carter as probably “the most intelligent U.S. president in history”.
The mind boggles.
