DeLay Seeks Speedy Trial

The latest AP report lays it out.
Here’s the letter from DeLay’s lawyer, Dick DeGuerin, urging the judge not to allow Texas prosecutor Ronnie Earle to drag this thing out. That, of course, is what Earle wants to do, because he has little chance of actually convicting DeLay.
DeGuerin has told NRO that if the judge sets the trial for early January, this thing could be wrapped up by early to mid-February. I think DeLay’s colleagues should give him at least that long. But if it drags out longer than that, I don’t think you could blame them for wanting to elect a permanent leader going into the 2006 campaign season.
