The Enduring Power of Mythology: Calvin Klein Edition

The Daily News carries a report today about the fact that Calvin Klein has replaced a rather infamous New York City billboard depicting what appears to be the opening stages of a modest orgy with the much more suitable image of a babe in a red bikini.

And one keenly insightful reader responds with this remark:

It’s sad that a few, I am sure strong Religious Right types, forced their censorship on this billboard forcing it to be taken down.

Yeah, because you know where the great citidel of Christian fundamentalism in America is? SoHo, that’s where. And you know who’s really in thrall to Religious Right intolerance? Calvin Klein.

Here’s a competing theory: They changed the ad from jeans to swimwear because … it’s summer.
