Guess the Party

Another installment of “guess the party”:

The Associated PressArticle Launched: 03/28/2008 05:15:24 AM PDT SAN DIEGO—A former San Diego councilman who is running again for office has been arrested and booked for investigation of indecent exposure.

Police spokeswoman Monica Munoz says 65-year-old John Hartley was placed under citizen’s arrest Thursday afternoon for allegedly urinating in a cup and masturbating on Vista Street in the Kensington area.

Hartley was booked into San Diego County Jail for indecent exposure and soliciting a lewd act. Bail was set at $27,000 and he was still in custody late Thursday.

Police Chief William Lansdowne says there are two witnesses to the incident.

Hartley, who served on the council from 1989 to 1993, is running in the June 3 election to replace termed-out Councilwoman Toni Atkins.

And wait for it…Democrat!

The only one of the four council seats up for grabs this year that could be considered safe for a particular party is in District 3, the city’s most heavily Democratic district. Judging by organization, endorsements and money, the three main challengers are all Democrats with bases of support in their communities.

The front-runners in the race to replace Democratic Councilwoman Toni Atkins are Todd Gloria, an aide for Rep. Susan Davis, D-San Diego; John Hartley, a former councilman who beat a two-term incumbent to win the seat in 1989; and Stephen Whitburn, a spokesman for the American Red Cross in San Diego.

I love this campaign blurb of his which fits nicely with the Spitzer “do as I say, not as I do” mantra of today’s Democratic party:

“Our neighborhoods are under attack and I want to fight to protect them.”
