Howard Kurtz Calls for a PorkWatch

Howard Kurtz says he’ll be watching the news stories carefully to “See who is just calling for reduced spending and who’s actually pushing specific and painful cutbacks.”
Good idea. A place to start is this Washington Times editorial. The editors note that Sens. John McCain and Tom Coburn have said that members should “lead by example and give up a few of the things we want.” But Rep. Jeb Hensarling actually offered an amendment to the hurricane relief bill that would have required the House to offset Katrina spending.
That’s a good start, but I’m not going to be really impressed until someone offers up an already-authorized project in his or her district.
