I Guess Charles Woodson Didn’t Listen to the SOTU

President Obama, Tuesday:

We need to teach our kids that it’s not just the winner of the Super Bowl who deserves to be celebrated, but the winner of the science fair; that success is not a function of fame or PR, but of hard work and discipline.

Charles Woodson, Wednesday:

Charles Woodson took it personally when President Barack Obama said he would only attend the Super Bowl if his hometown Chicago Bears made the trip. After beating the Bears in the NFC championship Sunday, the cornerback said (in an excited postgame speech), “The president doesn’t wan to come watch us go to the Super Bowl? Guess what? We’ll go see him!”

Wednesday, Woodson kicked it up a notch by sending the president a direct message through Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and Green Bay Mayor James J. Schmitt. The politicians delivered the President a signed Woodson jersey that said “See you at the White House. Go Packers.”

But why honor the winner of the Super Bowl at all? Here’s to President Obama’s sticking by his rhetoric and starting a new tradition of not inviting pro sports teams to Washington in exchange for a photo op and a souvenir jersey for the president.
