Another day, another John Edwards fundraising email attacking the media. Today’s note is from Joe Trippi. An excerpt:
Yesterday, Jonathan told you that the folks who benefit from the status quo are attacking John personally because they don’t want the country to hear his message.
And you know what happened when we called them out? The attacks started pouring in.
That same day, the Ann Coulter-wannabe Michelle Malkin blasted John on her blog. Fox News has been bashing him around the clock. And Coulter herself said, “if I’m going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I’ll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot.”
However, that’s not quite what she said. Left leaning Media Matters has the transcript:
COULTER: Though about the same time Bill Maher said — and by the way, I did not call John Edwards the “F” word. I said I couldn’t talk about him because you go into rehab for using that word.
CUOMO: You say you were — you were joking.
COULTER: Oh yeah, I wouldn’t insult gays by comparing them to John Edwards. That would be mean. But about the same time — you know — Bill Maher was not joking and saying he wished Dick Cheney had been killed in a terrorist attack. So I’ve learned my lesson. If I’m going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I’ll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot.
The context of what Coulter said is entirely different from the way Trippi is reporting it. I think Jim’s right that Edwards has a fundraising problem, especially if they’re resorting to these games so soon.
