Jury’s In on NYT’s Islam Beat

Last June when the NYT appointed Neil MacFarquhar to cover its newly created Islam beat, I looked over MacFarquhar’s old reporting on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and wondered:

Will this [beat] be anything other than a space for groups like the Council on American-Islamic Relations to air their various grievances?
