Katie Hates Hillary Nutcrackers

Drudge noted yesterday that CBS anchor Katie Couric (perhaps unsurprisingly) joined the chorus of media people beating up on the media for tossing so much everyday sexism at poor, maligned Hillary Clinton. Now she’s also complaining in her own “Notebook” video commentary:

One of the great lessons of that campaign is the continued and accepted role of sexism in American life, particularly in the media. Many women have made the point that if Senator Obama had to confront the racist equivalent of an “iron my shirt” poster at campaign rallies, or a Hillary nutcracker sold at airports, or mainstream pundits saying they instinctively cross their legs at the mention of her name, the outrage would not be a footnote. It would be front-page news.

This made me wonder: had Couric made these minor outrages front-page (or top of the newscast) news? Nexis finds two of them (the “iron my shirt” calls and Tucker Carlson’s cross-my-legs moment) were included in an Evening News story on Hillary fans — on June 3, at the very end of the primary season. The Hillary nutcracker products were never mentioned in the last two years on CBS. Apparently, Katie hates Hillary nutcrackers so much she never mentioned them on her program — which hardly makes her part of the solution.
