Sitting on a PBS/Charlie Rose panel full of liberals, former Bush pollster Matthew Dowd went on a tear Monday night, arguing that Mitt Romney was a terrible vice-presidential choice for John McCain. The reason? Because when it comes to facing off with Joe Biden, he said, McCain needs an “Elvis.” The rest of the panel laughed and wondered whether the Republicans had an Elvis. They joked it was a party of Wayne Newtons. (No one was there to interject that people looking for a President Elvis are at great risk of getting a “rock star” exactly like John Edwards and Bill Clinton.)
So who did Dowd suggest was an “Elvis” pick? Joe Lieberman. He declared that “most Republicans” wouldn’t agree with the “conservagencia” on the need for a pro-life veep.
