Murdoch-Pie Thrower Gets Six Weeks in Jail

If you can’t do the time . . .

Throw an improvised foam pie at Rupert Murdoch, go to jail.

That’s the lesson Jonathan May-Bowles, aka “Johnnie Marbles,” learned Tuesday when a British judge sentenced the 26-year-old comedian to six weeks in jail for his PR stunt/protest at last month’s parliamentary hearing on the News of the World phone hacking scandal.

“This is a parliamentary process, which as you know conducts itself with dignity and in a civilized fashion,” District Judge Daphne Wickham told May-Bowles, according to the BBC. “Everybody else in the room expected that, with one exception – you. You attended those proceedings with only one intention, to disrupt them.”

The comedian will have to serve at least half of the jail time before he is eligible for release. He will also have to pay a £15 victim surcharge and another £250 for court costs.
